 Boundary County
by Eilen Jewell

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

As some of you know I am not a fan of country music per se. But there are some artists I can tolerate and some I even adore. This is really quite 'country' in the grand scheme of things. But it's not 'ma wife left me, lost my job' country. It's more…I don't know, sweet perhaps?

Eilen Jewell's voice reminds me of Norah Jones' more countrified works. Especially the stuff she's done with The Little Willies. This is very comforting and soothing. Lovely.

The feel is sort of dirgy, back porch, lemonade sippin', goodness. Maybe it's the banjo, maybe it's the minor chords. Maybe it's that great voice. I don't know, but I'm hooked.

There are also some shining moments of energy as well. "Mess Around" is a great song that makes me want to grab a partner and dance.

"Back to Dallas" is also quite upbeat.

This is really a great record. There's a lot of talent here. The songs are very well written, interesting and catchy. The musicians are very talented and professional and sound fantastic together and that voice…well, you already know how I enjoy that.
