 Blueberries
by Sara Grabow

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

What is not to love about this record? I mean it, everything from the photographs, the name (Blueberries, it's just one of those words that is fun to say and makes me smile). This whole record has the same effect.

Some of you who have been reading my reviews for a long time may remember how in love I am with Denmark. The country and the music it produces. I guess there's something in the water in Denmark because every Danish artist I've heard I have adored and they all have a similar sound. That being sweet lovely pop with just enough edge to make them cool. Sara Grabow is one more of these.

This is one of those intelligent pop records. It really couldn't be more poppy stylistically, but it's not inane like most American pop music. You can't help but feel happy when listening.

Grabow's voice is lovely. It's sweet without being too girly and just oh so easy on the ears. She reminds me a lot of country-mate Marie Frank, but also of Bic Runga who I also love and have not heard enough of recently.

The opening song, "Nighttime Terror" is one that will stick with you. The composition…just the way the words go with the music is simply perfect. "

Along the Boulevard" is wonderful too

Track 11 is probably my favorite. It's called "My Space" and no, it's not about your second favorite website.

Any of these songs would work nicely on a variety of radio stations. I can certainly see them on your regular Top 40 type station, though her songs would be some of the best among them. But I can also see this record blending nicely with the contemporary pop and or folk lovers.

If you like Marie Frank, Bic Runga, Tina Dico and the like try this one too, you won't be disappointed. If you don't know any of them, check them all out. If you like perfect (intelligent) pop, that is. And let's be honest, who doesn't?
