 Back to the Roots
by Zera Vaughan

a Review by Amy Lotsberg Producer of Collected Sounds

This album is filled with music that is an interesting mix of Middle Eastern, techno, and trip-hop. Vaughan has a great voice that sounds really nice with the music. She sings in English, French, Arabic and Hebrew as well. She grew up in Tunisia, lived in England, Paris and Los Angeles. I'd say she's the definition of world music.

"Fragile" is a cover of the Sting song and she does a nice job with it. There's a nice piano part that helps keep it's jazzy feel.

"Sweet Home" is almost disco. Very danceable.

I didn't expect to like this because I thought she was a little freaky-deaky, what with her being painted to look like wood on the CD cover and all. But I really do think it's cool. I hope you do too.
