a Review by Anna Maria Stjärnell
Amy LaVere’s new album starts with the impressive murder ballad Killing Him.
“Killing him didn’t make the love go away” sings LaVere innocently of a murderous woman.
She mixes her own and other’s songs with good results.
Tennessee Valentine is a more classic country song, that LaVere handles with equal aplomb.
Pointless Drinking is an equally classic theme handled with soul and wit.
LaVere’s voice is on the slight side but she knows how to use it.
She ends the album with a lovely reading of Bob Dylan’s I’ll Remember You. She’s a great artist and this is a neat record.
