"After the Mountains" by Ritt Deitz

I wasn't sure what to expect from Ritt Deitz. The record looked to be a little too rootsy rock for me. But gladly I ended up liking it quite a bit.

The CD opens with "All the Good Times are Past and Gone" which is a sad, but still lovely tune and a nice way to begin this little journey.

Ritt Deitz has a great smokey voice that matches this style perfectly. The style being somewhere in between country/Americana and Tom Waits. The Tom Waits thing being most apparent to me on "Bluebird". His voice is gritty, grungy and very cool on this track.

"The Fire Song" is more of a classic rock number. While "I Can't Take You" is more bluesy.

The songwriting is interesting and unique while still being true to the genre thoughout. Nice storytelling as well as good rhythms and guitar lines.

If you like the above-mentioned styles I think you'll like Ritt Deitz.
